About Unit 2

💭 Essential Question: How do historians make sense of limited and diverse types of evidence to understand early human life before 8000 BCE?

The Origins of Humanity unit focuses on the beginnings of human history by analyzing human evolution and life during the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras. Through the study of fossils, tools, art, and early settlements, students will examine the evidence that helps us understand how early humans adapted to different environments over time. They will analyze the major shift from foraging to farming and consider the lasting impacts of the Neolithic Revolution on human society. Students will practice contextualization by placing these changes within the broader environmental, social, and technological settings of the time. The unit culminates in a thematic digital museum exhibit, where students will curate and present panels to demonstrate the historical significance of this time period. This printable contains a visual timeline of the unit. It is recommended to print a copy for each student. This can be taped to their desk or kept accessible in their folder. Additionally, consider having a copy posted somewhere in the classroom.
