My Role as a Scholar

'

As a student-scholar of history, you take ownership of your learning by cultivating the habits of historians. Rather than settling for who, what, and when, you probe deeper - asking why, how, and to what extent - while challenging assumptions, considering whose voices are absent, and formulating hypotheses to guide your inquiry. Scholars ask questions of contextualization, causation, and perspective, seeking first to understand the past. Finally, you communicate your findings in rigorous, well-structured writing: crafting a clear, evidence-driven thesis, organizing logical paragraphs with smooth transitions, and citing sources accurately while reflecting on their strengths and limitations.
